Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar is known for his films based on hard-hitting topics and has now made people sit up and take notice of the reality. Speaking with ETimes in an interview, Madhur Bhandarkar opened up about his stand on the content versus star power debate. Talking about when a producer signs a star for a film, the director gets a bigger budget. Bhandarkar then went on to talk about his film Heroine starring Kareena Kapoor Khan. He said, “ When you get a star, you get a budget also. When I made a film like, ‘Heroine’ with Kareena Kapoor Khan, you have to have that sort of budget also.”
Sharing why he chose Kareena for the lead role in the movie, Madhur Bhandarkar said, “For ‘Heroine’, you need a star, a persona that would match the character. She had to be that Diva who throws tantrums and is super glamorous. Kareena fits perfectly into it.” The director also continued to share how even today, Kareena calls Heroine her best movie.

Opening up about after Sushant Singh Rajput’s sudden and untimely demise, Madhur Bhandarkar revealed that people on social media are telling him that whatever he showed in the movie Heroine is true. He said, “After Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise, people on social media are telling me whatever I had shown in the movie ‘Heroine’ is true.” Talking about the film again, Bhandarkar said, “I have shown in the film what actors go through, how they fight their own battles, the PR things and all.” The Heroine director shared how he received a lot of flak when he made the movie, with people from the film fraternity getting very upset with him. Madhur Bhandarkar finally concluded that whatever he showed in Heroine is 95 per cent true. The director said that he is an honest filmmaker and he stands by the kind of work that he has done in his career and mentioned that he doesn’t belong to any lobby or camp. Meanwhile, Madhur Bhandarkar also reacted on Kareena Kapoor Khan’s second pregnancy and expressed that he is happy for the actress and her family as Taimur Ali Khan will soon have a sibling.
